K-8 Education

The Maryland Section sponsors numerous programs for children in elementary and middle school. Please see below for details on these programs.

If you are interested in joining us in these programs, or even have ideas for starting new ones, please contact any of the section officers, or come to one of our regular Executive Committee Meetings.

Chemistry in the Library

The Chemistry in the Library program is a volunteer effort by members of the ACS Maryland Local Section to bring the fun and wonder of chemistry to kids age 6 and up. We visit local libraries in the Maryland area and help kids with a variety of hands-on chemistry activities. We hope to see you & your student there!  Activities are geared towards students at the 2-6 grade level.  Students in grades pre-K-1 are welcome to come too as long as parents stay and help their student with the activities. Our updated schedule for the next school year will be listed here when available.

Kids and Chemistry

Kids & Chemistry is a community-based program that brings together scientists and children to do hands-on science activities. Volunteers include ACS members, ACS Student Chapters, and corporate groups.

We are always seeking individuals who wish to bring this great program into their schools and local community. If you are interested, please contact any of the Section Officers.

For more information about the program, go to  the Kids and Chemistry page of the American Chemical Society.
